New Shooter Information

Thanks for your interest in shooting IDPA at the Titusville Rifle & Pistol Club (TRPC).  We welcome new shooters and will do our best to make our match an enjoyable experience for you.

You're not required to be a member of TRPC to shoot in our IDPA matches.  Additionally, the IDPA organization allows everyone an opportunity to experience shooting a match before making the decision to join IDPA.

All you'll need for the IDPA match is your pistol, three magazines, holster and magazine pouch(es) for two magazines, eye/ear protection and less than 125 rounds of ammo.  Since we mostly draw from concealment, you'll need to cover up your equipment with some sort of garment.  Check the IDPA rulebook for detailed equipment requirements.

You'll shoot in the "Division" corresponding to your choice of firearm and as "Unclassified" until you have the opportunity to attend a classifier match (course-of-fire detailed in the rulebook).  You must be an IDPA member to receive a classification.

Our matches are held on the 3rd Sunday of each month.  Match registration opens at 0800 followed by an "all shooters" meeting at 0830.  The match fee is $10 - $15 per shooter depending on your TRPC membership status.

The range is located four miles west of I-95.  Take exit 223 (SR-46) to Hatbill Road and then left onto Gun Club Lane.  A range location map is posted here.

When you arrive at the range main gate, proceed straight down to the fork in the road.  Take the left fork and you will see two shooting range structures on your left.  Turn left in between them and proceed down to the parking area for the match.  The bays we use for the match are actually located on our 200 yard line downrange area.

Look for the registration table which will be in front of a shed type of structure.  There you can fill out the necessary paperwork and pay the match fee.  You'll be given a score sheet and asked to sign up on the "squad list".

The "all shooters" meeting starts at 0830.  I will ask if there are any new shooters and then will point to someone who will give you a "safety brief".  Once the brief is done, join your squad, turn in your score sheet and you will be put into the shooting order for your first "stage".  We usually shoot 6-7 "stages" with each one presenting a different shooting problem.  A written "stage description" will be posted in the front of each bay.  Be sure to read it carefully.  Pose any questions or concerns that you may have to the squad Safety Officer (SO) before shooting.

It's a good idea to remind your squad SO each time that you go up to shoot that you are new to IDPA.  This will key the SO in to be especially helpful in guiding you through the stage.  Take your time on each stage, proceeding slowly and carefully with a special effort to shoot as accurately as you can.  The speed will come as you gain experience in shooting IDPA but the fun starts on the very first stage.

Prior to match day, I strongly recommend that you review the IDPA New Shooter's Information Packet.  Also please visit http://idpa.com for more detailed information.  Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.  If you provide your email address, I will add you to the list to receive our email match announcements.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and shooting with you.
